CODINA KNIT BY SMASH (NAVY) €59.50

Floral prints are the friend of diverse body types and shapes. There are many different options to rock out, so flowers can look fab on anyone.

You can mix a sweet print dress with a sharp block colour jacket and matching heels, or swap the focus with neutral skinnies and a soft silky print jacket.

A pretty white lace or crochet detail top looks great over a bold patterned midi skirt, or you can team that large print with a basic coloured bodysuit for ease and comfort, and incredible elegance.

There are so many types of floral prints to choose from you will easily find one that works for your personal taste – whether you keep it muted and chic for a sophisticated grace, or go large and lurid for striking floral flair.

You get to decide where and how it suits you to make your flower garden grow.

Clever Capsules

Posted: Tue, 01 August 2017, 14:19

The phrase ‘Capsule Wardrobe’ is kind of everywhere these days, and in its essence it’s a useful idea… in certain circumstances.

Of course there’s folk on the style blogs who have gotten the complete wrong end of the wardrobe hanging rail and have run in a very different direction with the capsule concept – such as the notion that we should have a whole new seasonal capsule collection every 3 months?

No. That’s not what this is about.

Feel Good Fashion

Lisa McGowan - Ladies Day at Galway Races

We’re in the business of looking good.

I mean, we at Redlane are of course, but us ladies in general are taught pretty much from birth that our appearance is one of the most important things about us.

Things are changing, slowly, for the better… but overall there’s still tremendous pressure on us to look good every time, all the time.

With social media in the mix, that pressure increases exponentially.

We who didn’t have the internet as we grew up, we who could wear a terrible outfit or have a bad hair day and risk only our cringe factor when the Mammy pulls out old photo albums – we simply can’t imagine what it’s like for young girls these days under the constant gaze of a smart phone and at risk of social media satire.

Lisa McGowan has learned all about that. She’s an Irish fashion blogger who writes at Lisa’s Lust List on Facebook, was living the dream when she won top prize for Ladies’ Day at the Galway Races last year, in a gorgeous dress of her own design with her new label Strawberry Lime, started with Shauna Fay this year.

Things turned sour pretty fast though, when her picture hit the press and the comments started rolling in.

The internet trolls were out in force, and they weren’t one bit nice to her.

Her reaction was fierce though, in all the best ways. In a post on her page a few days later, she wrote “I've read lots of stuff about me over the last few days, horrible hurtful comments, droopy boob syndrome, should have worn a bra, make up atrocious, tangoed, satellite dish reception, fake Hollywood smile... Oh lads the list goes on.”

She then made an excellent point, saying that though she felt thick skinned enough to deal with the abuse (it must have hurt all the same, sure who wouldn’t be hurt by that sort of horrible comment?), the trolls would be moving on soon enough and there’s lots of girls who are more sensitive and suffering from depression, anorexia, with a real risk of self-harm and suicide.

Lisa told the lot of them, very publicly, to “p**s off and get a life”, and she was dead right.

Know Your Neckline

Posted: Wed, 19 July 2017, 11:33

Jabot, Sabrina, and Queen Anne...

They are neckline names that might sound a bit too complicated even for dedicated fashionistas, but most of us are at least passing familiar with terms like crew-neck, halter, or off-the-shoulder.

When choosing your outfit it’s smart to consider the neckline, so here’s a few factors you can look at to figure out what’s best for your style.

Lace It Up

Posted: Tue, 04 July 2017, 11:17

We love our lace here at Redlane, and the season’s runways continue to provide us with what we adore, while adding some exciting new twists for Autumn/Winter occasion wear.

With softer lines than the sheer, clean retro lace we have been seeing, the dark romantic look has been popular with designers like Balmain, Valentino, McQueen, Dolce & Gabbana, Marc Jacobs and Gucci.

But the clean, soft, classic romantic look is definitely still a hit with us!

Décolletage in Decline?

Posted: Tue, 27 June 2017, 11:14

Displaying the cleavage is sooooooo last season dahling… according to Vogue UK, fashion has moved forward from the push up presentation of corsetry and the Wonderbra, with the red carpets and the runways showing a distinct tendency to button up the boobs in recent times.

In their December issue, Kathleen Baird-Murray’s ‘Desperately Seeking Cleavage’ article gave it loads about not getting your “tits out” for the lads, or anyone else, and in fairness to them they’re probably looking to continue their feminist flair with a strong message that you don’t have to flash the twins in order to feel sexy or beautiful.

Now, as you might imagine, this position raised some controversy online....
