‘Signature Style’ is a fashion term that gets thrown around a lot on Instagram and fashion blogs, often in relation to celebrities and how we might copy their signature style. But that’s not what it’s about. This is about YOU – what sort of clothes make you look and feel good; what suits your lifestyle, your budget, and your body.
In Part One, we looked at the first three elements to finding your signature style:
- Know your body shape
- Get inspired
- Pick your colours
Carrying on with the quest for your signature style, we’re finding the look that will a) save you money as you will realise how much you already have, and know how to use the clothes you have in a whole new way, and b) learn to love your body as it is, and understand fit and shape so you can dress your body without worrying about your weight.
Let’s do this!
Invest in Timeless Classics
When you purchase stylish clothes instead of just the latest trendy clothes, you build a wardrobe foundation that is solid and reliable. You can work with these timeless pieces every day without having to think too much about your outfits, and match with whatever flights of fancy you like, as touches of a style that suits you.
This doesn’t all have to happen at once, and you may already have many of these. Others you can work on acquiring over time.
- A denim jacket
- A structured jacket
- The perfect plain white t-shirt
- Silk or cotton blouses/shirts
- Some classic tops
- A skirt around knee length
- A couple of pairs of versatile shoes
- A winter coat
- A couple of solid colored sweaters
- Skinny black jeans
- Well fitting blue jeans
- A little black dress
- And, some comfy clothes for relaxing and exercising.
You want this to be easy, a no-brainer first thing in the morning so you’re not scrambling for what to wear. Look at how you organise your wardrobe, and begin to store your ‘go to’ clothes together.
These are the pieces that never let you down – the trousers or jeans that fit and look good no matter what, the skirt that makes your legs look amazing, the top that never wrinkles and goes with practically all of your bottoms.
For an even easier start in the mornings, hang by outfit – just keep some of your looks that really work for you stored together.
No mess, no fuss, just take the whole thing off the hanger and pop it on after your shower.
It might help to spend an hour or two at the weekend, trying on things you think might work, and creating those outfits.
And if you’re not sure, why not snap some selfies and share them in the Redlane Style Club Group on Facebook? We’ve a great community there who would love to help!
