We’re here with a simple, science based guide to help you figure out your body type, so you can always dress to impress and make the most of your natural body shape and style!
Did you ever see a dress that you absolutely LOVE, and you think would really suit you, but when you try it on it’s just not working for you at all… and you can’t really figure out why?
As part of the professional stylist training which all of the Redlane staff are involved in, through our continual up-skill programme in-store, we figured out this simple body shape calculator, and it’s too good not to share!
Rather than comparing yourself to pictures of celebrities or fruit, which can leave you feeling unsure if you’ve arrived at the right conclusion – and to be honest, a little objectified (I may be apple-shaped, but I’m not actually an apple, thank you?!) – here’s a simple guide to calculating what shape your body is most like, to empower you in choosing outfits that maximise your assets and work for you.
It’s important to note that these basic body shapes are based on your proportions, not your weight. Finding something that sits right on your body, and suits you personally, is more important than what number is showing on the label.
This is where our body shape guidelines can help you…
GOT YOUR MEASUREMENTS… GREAT! WHAT NOW?
We take the scientific approach from here, and look at research done by the North Carolina State University and published in the Journal of Textile and Apparel, Technology and Management.
[We read it so you don’t have to, but you can get the full report here, if you like that sort of thing!]
Check their (brief) descriptions of the proportions in our Body Shape Science Infographic, then click on the individual pics below to get a fuller idea of what each body shape is all about, and how to style your shape.
